Itchy.

I'm getting antsy and itchy to start really getting a production line going. I have a huge list of things I want to start. I may need to enlist some free Nanna babysitting services. I know she's been wanting to have him for an overnight stay for a while. The thought of a whole night of getting stuff done almost makes me salivate!

With 4 months to go until Christmas, I have to get started on Christmas presents!

The "coming soon" list includes some felt booties, cloth books, puppets, crayon rolls, a few quilts and mats, dresses, t shirts, keyrings... crikey. So many things bouncing around in my brain. Anyone else about to put their heads down, bums up, and get creating?

Puppets

OK, blog neglect over, here's some puppets I put together this week, and their little pouch they live in. I'm pretty happy with the way they turned out, less happy with the photography though. If someone can help me get the yellow out of the shot when dealing with multiple light sources that'd be great! (Nikon D60)

I've had the Mummy puppet's face done for a while, and wasn't quite sure what to use her for. Originally she was going to be a softie Matryoshka, but I couldn't get the pattern right for the body, so scrapped it. But her sweet little face was staring at me from my sewing box after that. I'm not sure whether she "fits" the look of the rest of the girls, but I thought this was a good an excuse to use her as any. Feedback on whether it works or not would be great. She's not too "different" from the others is she?

Anywho, I digress! Here's the goods.

What do you think? Constructive criticism adored. They were a fun weekend project and I look forward to the next ones. They're just BEGGING for squiggly elastic.

Another rainy day...

Hoping it gets my creative juices flowing... I have in my mind a little turle named Walter, but my patternmaking skills are going to let me down, I feel.

Maybe I'll do it the "Colleen way" (absolutely the hardest way possible) and just "construct" it on the fly. I can see it getting frustrating though. I see me throwing the turtle onto the road and having a small fit. Perhaps stabbing it with the scissors in what police would later call a frenzied attack...

Stay tuned. Same bat time, same bat channel.

Book ends.

I know I can't be the only person that has ever watched the highly acclaimed TV show "Frasier" and found themselves admiring Frasier Crane's apartment. I have even found myself pausing the DVD in order to catch a glimpse of a nic nac on a shelf, or how he has arranged something in his kitchen. His apartment itself is almost a character in the show. Or even an exention of his costume, representing the character of Frasier Crane, and giving us insight into his personality and life.

On one of my said 'pausing-sprees' I found some beautiful book ends. In the latter seasons, it is on the hall table behind his 'Coco Chanel replica' couch. Quite simple, it is an A and a Z, in black gloss. I fell in love! I searched the internet to find more information, and there was none. So necessity being the mother of invention, I decided to make it myself. At the Stitches and Craft show I picked up the appropriate letters (it was surprisingly hard to find a lowercase A instead of the capital) and decided to get it done! My Dad was interested in helping out, and kept mentioning that he would be more than happy to do the right angled planks for me. Score! So here it is, a joint venture by father and daughter, my lovely A-Z book ends will have pride of place ontop of our new Ikea bookshelves in the lounge. After all, you can't have books without our much beloved alphabet. They are the very beginning, of everything.

What do you think? I'm pretty happy with the way they've turned out!

Newie Cutie Booties

Finally finished those girls booties. Size 3-6 month.

Photobucket

That was them the other day. Liam has started taking mammoth naps in the mornings now, so I can actually sit for a decent length of time and finish things. It's a nice feeling. I'm going to enjoy it while it lasts! He's also sleeping longer stretches at night, which is just glorious. The other night he slept from 8pm until 5:30am. Absolutely unheard of! He then needed a feed but happily went back to sleep for a few hours. My boobs were killing me by 5am. ANYWHO enough with the baby. More with the booties.

I like the way they turned out. Pink and mustard go together really well, I think.

On an unrelated note, there's been a big storm most of today. It's glorious. I LOVE stormy weather. God knows we need it. Nothing gets the creative juices flowing like thunder and teaming rain. I adore being all snuggly and warm inside while it's pouring down outside. I even have my cup of soup and my big wooly cardigan. Now all I need is the bay window and I'm a soup commercial. I hope it lasts all day. I love days like this more than words can describe.

Vision board.

I haven't read The Secret. I have been told I should, as people close to me think I've been living this way for years. I've always been a big fan of "sending things out into the universe". I think if you send negativity out, you get negativity back, and the same goes with positivity. So with that in mind, I thought I would put together a vision board. As you may have guessed from my last post, we're house hunting. So I thought I would put together a vision board of all the things we'd love our house to have. There's my 2 favourite floor plans of all time, some of my favourite trees and flowers, and some kitchens and window styles I love. Here's my order that I'm putting out to the universe. We'd like a few of these things in our next house. A yard, 4 or 5 bedrooms, a nice open plan kitchen/living space, and nice bright windows everywhere. I long to look out my window and see trees instead of parts of other people's houses. I long to be able to open up all our windows and always have our blinds open. A driveway runs down one side of our house, for the unit at the back. And everytime I open those blinds I feel so conspicuous. The consequence to that is dark rooms down that side of the house. I pine for opening my windows with wreckless abandon and letting all the light in.

So here you go, universe. Show us what you got.

Pining for a studio space

Oh how I pine for a studio space of my very own! The house is over-run with crafty stuff. Hubby has yet to make the fatal mistake of calling it junk, but I fear the day could soon come.

We live in a very small 3 bedroom house and I'm aching for a sewing room. Both of us are feeling the squeeze, to be honest. With one baby here, and one hopefully on the horizon one day, we're going to find ourselves in a predicament. Both sets of parents live further enough away that they have to stay when they come visit, so losing our guest bedroom means no guests. The idea of having a toddler and a new baby and not having the ability to have my mother or MIL stay over scares the bejesus out of me! We've both come to the realisation that we've grown out of this house, or are about to. And considering the fact you want to move before it becomes a problem, it brings it to the forefront now.

Hubby has mentioned how great it would be to have a playroom for Liam where all the power points were up high near the ceiling, a TV up there where he can't reach, and all his toys. A room we can put a gate on, and know he cannot get into anything he shouldn't. So we collated our dreams and made the horrible realisation that to fulfill everyone's dreams, we would need a 5 bedroom house, plus a study! Eeeeeek! Obviously to get one of those for the price of this house, it's a pretty drastic change in lifestyle. We'd have to go much further out. Add to the mix we want some resemblance of a yard and the mind boggles.

I think my chances of getting my own studio space are about the same as my odds of winning tattslotto.

I wish I could have somewhere with a nice big table in the centre of the room, bookshelves on almost all of the walls, my machine permanently set up (instead of dragged out from the laundry cupboard every time I want to use it) and nice big cupboards for various stashes. Of course the light would flow in through a nice big window, overlooking some beautiful trees. And of course there would be stunning fresh cut flowers that never die. Not a spec of dust to be seen. *sigh*

I think it's best to keep this idea in fantasy land for now. Guests and children's needs come first. But if we do win lotto, you can bet your bottom dollar there'll be one ROCKING studio over this way. For all those out in blogland with their very own studio space, take a minute to sit back and be thankful. Some people are very jealous! Here are some that make me turn positively green with envy.

Tulip Colour Scheme

Can't stop staring at my favourite photo from last year's Tulip Festival, wondering what its telling me to do. I'm thinking of using the colour scheme in something. But it isn't quite making itself known yet. If you have any ideas I'd love to hear them.

Here's the colour scheme I like from it.

Photobucket

Talk to me tulips! What should I do with these three colours?!

Stitches and Craft Show

What a lovely day it was! Just me and the pram (and the baby... of course...) went to the show to have a look at what this year's offerings were. I was pretty impressed! It was nice to put a face to the name of some of the bloggers out there in blogville. It was a little lonely just going on my own though... and quick. When you go with others you have to pretend to be interested in what they're interested in, which takes up time. I was done in about an hour. Unheard of! Next time I wouldn't mind leaving the baby at home with Daddy and maybe doing a few workshops.

The stash was expanded, of course. I was delighted to finally purchase something from blogger extraordinaire Jhoanna Monte Aranez over at One Red Robin. I got some fabric, and I am also the new proud owner of her pattern for her Baby Chibi Dolls.

Photobucket

I also got a little carried away at Amitie Textiles stall. They have the most lovely things! It's nice to see a fabric store that doesn't ignore the importance of black and white in their colour spectrum.

Photobucket

All in all a great stash, and a great day. It would have been better with a few crafty buddies though. It gets lonely being almost completely silent looking at all those goodies.

Colour trends

Well the colour forecasts are in for Autumn/Winter this year, have been for quite some time now. But with our first chilly week in a long time, I'm finally in the right headspace for cooler weather and the impending winter. So here's 2 colour palettes of what is supposedly in this season. Obviously one is a brights and one a bit mellower in tone. I'm glad to see that god awful fluorescent mustard isn't back in this winter. Bleugh!

My favourites would have to be Slate, Avocado, Sweet Paprika, and Cobble Stone in the brights palette. And Maritime Blue, Rose Hips, Forget-Me-Not, and Briar Rose in the mellow palette. Looking forward to incorporating those into some projects soon.
